John Garrett Thew
This is John's 8 point buck which stands approximately 42 inches above the roof line. The deer itself is about 30 inches long, and he runs into the wind. If you look closely, you'll see the brass "guard dog" attached to the mounting post under the deer. The incredible balance that John engineers into his weathervanes is so good that the deer will literally leap off the post in a stiff breeze. The "guard dog" keeps him on the post where he belongs and is John's trademark. It also helps keep the weathervane from being easily stolen by college pranksters. Each weathervane is full bodied, hand hammered, copper and is signed, dated, and numbered. The copper has not been treated and
will age into a rich patina over time.
John, at age 91, has decided to stop making his weather vanes and we here at Made in Connecticut are keeping what we have.
